Role Mandate:
The Sr. Director, Front End is responsible for all aspects of front end operations including consistent cashier training and performance, ergonomics, implementing format customer service standards, implementing PC Banking and Insurance marketing programs, communications and other activities related to customer service and front end performance
Accountabilities:
• Ensure optimal performance and ergonomics of physical front end; measure performance against standards and manage efforts to close identified gaps. Increase the consistency of format front end execution across the country
• Direct initiatives to measure and improve cashier productivity
• Provide input into the development of cashier training modules
• Coordinate the execution of marketing programs for PC Bank, Insurance, etc. and manage roll-outs to stores
• Provide input into and implement format customer service standards (e.g. 5 cent bags, bagging, queue length, etc.)
• Provide leadership in improving P&L line item performance (e.g. labour, front end supply costs, cash loss, ‘under the buggy’)
• Ensure that all front-end communications to stores promote improved operational performance
• Manages end-user testing of front end applications
• Provide input to IS on front end system specifications, roll-outs and system optimization.
• Coordinate, cost and provide feedback on quality of front end maintenance
• Recruit, manage, train, motivate and appraise direct reports. This includes explicit consideration of on-the-job training needs for each direct report, arranging appropriate training, providing timely feedback, and succession planning
• Develop, monitor and manage within annual operating budgets, ensuring strategic priorities are met
Role Requirements:
• Extensive central experience in identifying and implementing operational improvements in one or more formats
• Considerable operational experience in at least one format
Key Measures (Performance indicators):
• Store audit results
• Reduction in cash loss
• Improvements in scanning productivity (items per minute)
• Reduction in maintenance costs
• Customer survey results; employee survey results
• Supply costs
• Tender penetration for programs (PC MasterCard, PC Debit, etc.)
• P&L line items (labour, front end supply costs, etc)
• Turnover of employees
• Promotional and charitable program results
