Job Profile: Regional Specialist

Reports to: National Director, Specialists

Role Mandate:
The Regional Specialist role is to ensure a National Standard implementation of all Standards, Programs and Processes by BU at all stores and provide a single National perspective on execution in each Department / BU. Regional Specialists provide a National accountability for the execution of National Programs and a consistency of execution in all markets while maintaining local regional flexibility and look to significantly improve the Bottom 20% Contribution Stores by BU, through measurable improvement to the Banner, Market and Company

Accountabilities:
• Provide guidance to department manager colleagues. This would include identifying and facilitating training requirements and level of coaching necessary to deliver expectations, assist when asked in providing feedback of performance and areas for improvement and development, assist with setting specific department standards, specifications (skills set and qualifications)
• Provide ongoing feedback to stores, DM’s, SM’s ASM’s for such things as balancing the skills set of the department to the volume/layout of the stores, assisting in succession planning discussions based on observation of the stores team
• Ensure a 100% Planogram compliance and implementation to BU standard.
• Ensure department adherence to audits i.e. LAR, H & S, Food Safety etc, focus on Bottom 20%.
• Strong working knowledge of all departments within their area of responsibility, including systems & reports
• Ensure all Department Managers are properly trained through liaison with BU’s or stores of learning
• Work closely with Department Managers and provide coaching and training
• Identify areas of opportunities and prioritize stores that will receive focused Market Specialist support
• On the Bottom 20% of stores in area develop and execute Store improvement action plans with the assistance of the Department Manager and get commitment and sign-off from the SM & ASM
• Act as a liaison to ensure effective collaboration between stores and merchandising, applying expertise in both fields to help provide clarity and reach agreement on specific standards of execution
• Conduct store visits on the Bottom 20%, analyze department performance and provide feedback. Develop Store business action plans to address any gaps in performance or procedure. Follow up with key stakeholders on prior feedback/action plans in order to ensure continuous department improvement. Keep SM, ASMs, DMs and RDs abreast of progress on improvement plans in their respective stores
• Identify stores that require priority assistance reducing shrink, develop action plans with Department Managers and Store Managers to address this issue, and work with them to implement the action plan.
• Provide guidance, feedback and coaching which complements Learning Stores training and ensures sustainability at the store level
• Assist with new store openings and refurbishments by:
- Overseeing that the work is heading in the right direction by auditing standards, programs & planograms
- Assisting with the selection of new store department manager employees and designing training plans
• Track the rollout of new standards, programs, saunas, and planograms
• Develop specific store / BU action/business plans for underperforming stores based on Contribution (i.e. bottom 20 stores) to impact department store contributions (regionally)

-Retail leadership & management experience; experience working in multiple formats a plus
-Operational experience as a specialist, preferably in multiple departments
-Excellent problem solving, communication, interpersonal and team-building skills
-Strong diagnostic analytical skills (Root cause analysis)
-Leading and motivating others
