Position Scope Reporting to the Manager, HSE the HSE Technician plays an essential role in supporting the successful execution of overall business operations by advising people and applying expertise to various improvement initiatives. You are an experienced field HSE professional who is comfortable collaborating with others to support current operations while supporting the development of the organization’s HSE systems. The successful candidate will be working onsite in Squamish, BC Responsibilities Responsible for communicating and applying federal, provincial, local and company HSE policies in addition to requirements within various departments. Assist development and implementation new and existing programs designed to promote improved HSE performance, annual maintenance of occupational health and technical safety programs, emergency response planning, audits and assessments. Record keeping, internal and external reporting, development of written reports. Conduct / Lead investigations, root cause analysis and implement corrective actions. Provide HSE training and support to field personnel. Ensure inspection routines are implemented and monitored for all HSE equipment in the plant. Lead/present/facilitate key health and safety topics at employee and contractor engagement forums, meetings and roundtables. Champion and monitor the implementation of safe work systems within the asset, including energy isolation, hot work, confined space entry, operating mobile equipment, line breaking, electrical work, including environmental. In collaboration with Purchasing department, provide hands on field support to ensure waste shipments are properly transported offsite such as containers and labels inspections, appropriate shipping documents required and completed, communication with truck drivers for waste loading. Champion safety campaigns based on HSE trends (leading/lagging KPIs) and analysis of incidents. Mentor/coach field personnel to be champion of HSE. Support the Contractor Management Program initiatives, including audits, field assessments, observations and investigation reviews. Assisting or conducting hazard assessments on work and operational processes. In field audits of work systems and personnel. Support the Joint Occupational Health and Safety committee Participate in HAZOPs, PHAs, PSSRs, risk assessments and MOC reviews. Demonstrates thorough understanding of HSE policies and company programs by assisting assets or groups in implementation of the developed HSE programs and controls. Qualifications and Experience Education and Experience Post Secondary education in science, trades, engineering or other technical program with formal training in Occupational Health and Safety (CRSP, CSO or equivalent experience) or is willing to obtain formal training. 4+ years experience in HSE in an industrial production plant or research and development setting. Working knowledge of investigation procedures and incident reporting. Working knowledge of HSE equipment standards. Proficient in plant operations HSE procedures: Lockout Tagout. Working at Height/Fall Arrest. Confined Space Entry/Rescue. Line Break/Block and Bleed. Hot Work. Familiarity of environmental standards and regulations (Transportation of Dangerous Goods). Key competencies Ability to handle conflicts and act as a change agent to promote HSE culture. Collaborate well in a team environment. Excellent written and verbal skills. Practical mindset and willing to go out into the field when required. A self-started with the ability to work independently towards multiple deadlines with minimum supervision in a fast-paced environment. Offers and Benefits Carbon Engineering offers a competitive compensation package including extended health benefits. Base Salary for an Intermediate to Advanced level role is $69,700 to $86,100 with additional bonus pay.
