Taku River Tlingit First Nation (TRTFN) is located in Atlin, a small community of approximately 470 people, located in the northwest portion of the province of BC, in the Stikine region and about 178Km south of Whitehorse.We are seeking a Mining Technician to join our Lands and Resources Department. Working under the supervision of the Mining Coordinator (MC). The mining Technician (MT) will be involved in mining related activities that are inline with advancing TRTFN’s mining principles and objectives.Duties/Responsibilities Assist the mining coordinator (MC) in: Reviewing and assessing of mining related applications/permits as per: TRTFN Mining Policy, BC Mines Act, BC Environmental Act, Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCA) policy and any other relevant associated policies. Documenting, filing, organizing, and managing of mining applications/permits and information in both hardcopy and digital formats. Performing joint field visits with mine inspectors to proponent mine sites in efforts to upholding TRTFN mining policy, BC Mines act, BC Environmental act and any other relevant policies. Working collaboratively with mining proponents to build stable long-term relationships that reinforces environmentally sound and responsible mineral extraction practices. Identifying, analysing, addressing or resolving issues in potentially adversarial circumstances. Performing community and proponent engagement for the mining division. Professionally representing TRTFN to TRTFN Citizens, Atlin community, BC/Yukon Governments, clients, and proponents. Participate as a TRTFN representative on joint technical working groups between TRTFN and clients/proponents/partners, with activities pertaining to major proponents as being of priority. Use of GIS software to consolidate existing TRTFN GIS spatial database and merge with new GIS. Gathering of information to support TRTFN’s goal of Implementing the Wóoshtin wudidaa - Atlin Taku Land Use Plan, Wóoshtin Yan too.aat -Land and Resource Management Plan and the Government to Government Shared Decision-making Agreement (G2G Agreement). Provide appropriate and timely advice and exercise judgement in analysing information and making recommendations on mining related activity within TRTFN territory. Acquire detailed knowledge of relevant files, agreements, treaties, legislation, policy, and procedures on mining that may be related to, or affect TRTFN. Participate in the development and implementation of mining division goals and workplans. Cooperate with the MC and the Lands & Resources manager to ensure that mining division work and priorities are met in a respectful and coordinated and timely manner. Other duties as directed and required. Requirements/Qualifications A College/University Diploma/Degree in Mining from an accredited institution. A valid BC Class 5 Drivers licence or equivalent from any other Canadian provinces. Proficiency in Microsoft office suites with GIS/CAD software expertise as a beneficial asset. An RCMP/Police background check. Remuneration/Benefits $35 an hour to be reviewed. Re-imbursement of up to $3000 for relocation costs to Atlin and $700 a month in rent subsidy for the first 3 months for a total of $2100. Associated benefits like dental, health, and insurance after a 3-month probation period.
