The Department of Arts, Culture and Media at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) invites applications for a part-time 50% appointment in the area of Music, Industry and Technology (Joint Program). The appointment is anticipated to begin on July 1, 2024, on a contractual basis, with each contract lasting one year. Applicants must have earned a graduate degree in music or a related field at the time of appointment or shortly thereafter, or have equivalent professional experience in the music industry. The successful candidate will teach the course “Introduction to Music, Industry and Technology” and a combination of other inperson lecture- and practice-based courses according to their expertise (e.g., Music and Technology, Music in the Contemporary World, Small Ensemble: Digital and Amplified, Developing Musicianship, Listening to Music), for a total of three undergraduate courses per academic year.Candidates must have expertise in two or more of the following areas: audio engineering, studio and/or live production, music business, sound design, and psychoacoustics, and demonstrate a record of success in teaching and mentoring students in topics related to music technology and the music industry.The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching and supervising students in the undergraduate degree program, fulfilling other professional and administrative activities related to teaching, and articipating in curriculum development and departmental and university committee work in order to contribute to program and departmental initiatives, commensurate to a 50% commitment. We especially welcome candidates with experience working with, teaching or mentoring diverse groups of students, and who have demonstrated the ability to foster diversity on campus and within the curriculum or discipline.Additionally, qualified candidates should have demonstrated successful teaching expertise at the post-secondary level, including lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, and development of online material/lectures. Candidates must possess a commitment to pedagogical excellence and a demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activities.
