The Facilities Operator is responsible for custodial and building maintenance at Municipal facilities, and operational requirements for the arena and pool at the Jack Burger Sports Complex (JBSC), including ice installation, maintenance and removal; pool maintenance. Union dues payable after thirty (30) consecutive calendar days. Operator will receive step 1 for less than one year or service, step 2 for more than one but less than two years of service, and step 3 for more than 2 years of service. Step 1 - 90% - $28.28 Step 2 - 95% - $31.42 Step 3 - 100% - $33.07 Qualifications High school Diploma or equivalent plus specialized courses in pool and arena operations and maintenance e.g. Class B Refrigeration, Ice technologies. Three (3) to four (4) years experience in pool and/or arena maintenance, and building maintenance required. Certified Pool Operator or equivalent preferred or willingness to attain. Certified Ice Technician preferred or willingness to attain. Health and Safety training including WHMIS and First Aid/CPR required. Knowledge of Ontario Health regulations governing public pools preferred. Availability and flexibility to work evenings, weekends and on-call. Valid and satisfactory ‘G’ drivers license is required. Valid and satisfactory Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check. Heavy physical labour involving lifting, pushing and pulling of weight up to and sometimes over 40Kg. Responsibilities Provide maintenance services on pools and splash pads, including draining, painting, scrubbing, grouting, cleaning, filling, adjusting chemical requirements and maintaining operation of equipment and sites. Provide installation, maintenance and removal of ice at rinks (indoor and outdoor) including safe operation and maintenance of all equipment used such as ice resurfacer, pumps, condenser, ice edger and skate sharpener. Provide maintenance services on the buildings and grounds such as cleaning, vending machine/food equipment maintenance, painting, repair including minor repairs to heating, electrical, plumbing, air circulation system and other maintenance activities as required. Inventory and summarize required supplies for purchase to maintain facility operations. Conduct inspections and prepare reports on vehicles, equipment and facilities as required. Provide services to move office equipment, furniture and related materials. Provide oversight and training of seasonal and summer student employees; provide staff performance feedback to the Supervisor on a timely basis; ensure safe and efficient operation of equipment by co-workers. Perform task assignments to support other divisions within Parks, Recreation and Culture department. Demonstrate knowledge and ensure proper handling of equipment and chemicals as outlined under municipal policies and procedures as well as the Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHIMIS). Comply with all Health and Safety regulations, procedures and security measures while undertaking their duties and ensure the public are aware of guidelines where infractions are observed or as required to follow emergency procedures. Provide customer service to the public and demonstrate commitment to the delivery of customer service excellence; interact with the public in a respectful, courteous, informative, appropriate, and prompt manner; manage arena user group time allocation. Provide information regarding services, directions, promotion of events and redirect to other services as appropriate. Support Municipal policy, procedures and by-laws in your actions and communications. Adhere to high standards of ethical behaviour and demonstrate their understanding that their personal actions impact the public’s perception of the Municipality. Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Facilities or designate.
