Summary of the Role: The licensed Auto Body and Collision Technician will be responsible for repairing and restoring vehicles including but not limited to: performing safety-related functions, using tools and equipment, use of welding equipment, organizing work and documentation, removing and installing vehicle components, surface preparation, applying refinishing materials, detailing, removing and installing structural glass, servicing SRS systems, structural repair, and servicing mechanical and electrical systems. Key Responsibilities: Performs safety-related functions. Inspections and estimates. Uses and maintains tools and equipment. Uses and maintains welding equipment. Organizes work and uses documentation. Applies corrosion protection and sound deadening materials. Removes and installs trim and weather strips. Performs inspections. Prepares for repair and replacement of structural components. Repairs, removes and installs structural components. Removes, installs and repairs structural glass. Removes, repairs and installs metal panels and components. Removes, repairs and installs plastic and composite panels and components. Removes and installs non-structural glass. Deactivates and reactivates alternate-fuel systems. Removes and installs mechanical components. Removes, repairs and installs electrical components. Repairs and replaces interior components. Services supplemental restraint systems (SRS). Prepares surfaces. Uses fillers, primers and surfacers. Prepares and applies refinishing materials. Details exterior. Cleans vehicles. Welds breaks in body panels. Removes or replaces electrical and electronic components. Removes and replaces wiring harnesses air conditioning systems, and mechanical components. Straightens and aligns frames and unibody assemblies. May supervise the work of apprentices. Other duties as required. Key Requirements, Experience and Skills: Auto Body Collision Technician License (310B) is required. Auto Body and Collision Technician Red seal certification is preferred. A minimum of five (5) years of auto body and collision repair experience is required. Must have a valid Ontario Driver's License and good driving record. Ability to work unsupervised in all aspects to work in a fast-paced environment. Basic automotive mechanical and electrical knowledge. Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information. Strong attention to detail and the ability to work with precision. Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physical tasks as required. Familiarity with mechanics and the ability to diagnose and fix mechanical issues. Experienced in the use of diagnostic equipment and specialized auto body service databases to retrieve and review past service information. Experienced in generating and interpreting estimates and work orders. Ability to measure, analyze and compare product specifications. Strong understanding of various related Acts, Bylaws and Regulations including health and safety. Experienced in training and developing future apprentices, and frequently exchanging knowledge and technical information with colleagues in the trade. Strong communication skills both oral and written. Attributes: Strong interpersonal skills and a professional attitude. Detail-oriented. Highly analytical thinker with demonstrated talent for identifying, scrutinizing and improving processes. Numerical competence. Ability to work well within a team-oriented environment.
