Job Summary: In a tooling and injection molding plant, an Estimator plays a critical role in assessing the cost of manufacturing projects, particularly those related to tooling and injection molding processes. Estimators play a pivotal role in the pre-production phase of manufacturing projects by accurately assessing costs, preparing competitive quotations, and supporting customer acquisition and project planning efforts in tooling and injection molding plants. Their expertise helps ensure that projects are financially viable, profitable, and successfully executed within budgetary constraints. Job Responsibilities: Your supervisor may from time to time ask you to perform other related duties not specifically included in this job description. This job's key responsibilities include: Project Evaluation : Estimators review project specifications, blueprints, and customer requirements to understand the scope of work. They assess the complexity of the project, including factors such as the type of tooling required, the size and complexity of molds, material specifications, and production volume. Cost Estimation : Using their expertise in manufacturing processes, materials, and equipment, Estimators calculate the cost of producing the required tooling and molded parts. This includes estimating the cost of materials, labor, machine time, overhead expenses, and any additional costs such as subcontracting or tool maintenance. Quotation Preparation: Based on their cost estimates, Estimators prepare quotations or proposals for potential customers. These quotations outline the pricing details, lead times, terms and conditions, and any other relevant information to communicate the cost and scope of the project to the customer. Supplier and Vendor Coordination: Estimators may liaise with suppliers and vendors to obtain pricing information for materials, components, and services required for the project. They negotiate pricing, lead times, and terms to ensure competitive costs and timely delivery of supplies. Risk Assessment: Estimators assess potential risks and uncertainties associated with the project, such as changes in material prices, production delays, or unexpected tooling issues. They may incorporate contingency factors into their cost estimates to account for these risks and ensure profitability. Job Qualifications: Education: A college or bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related field is preferred. Prior experience in manufacturing, particularly in tooling and injection molding processes, is highly beneficial. This may include roles such as a production engineer, process engineer, or manufacturing technician. Specific experience in estimating costs for tooling and injection molding projects is desirable. This could involve experience in a similar role within the manufacturing industry or related fields. Familiarity with reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications is often required. Technical Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of tooling and injection molding processes, including materials, equipment, and manufacturing techniques. Cost Estimation: Proficiency in cost estimation techniques, including the ability to calculate material costs, labor costs, overhead expenses, and other project-related expenses accurately. Why ABC?
