Please proceed using the link: https://app.traits.com/survey/a56e7669-2ba6-4573-83cd-800831da5362 POSITION OVERVIEW: Startec Refrigeration Service is currently recruiting a Project Technologist-in-Training (T.T.) to work at our Shepard Office location (9423 Shepard Rd SE, Calgary, AB, T2C 4R6) . Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Project Technologist in training (T.T) will be responsible for providing support in design through to construction and commissioning of refrigeration and HVAC systems. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Project T.T. will work closely with engineers, vendors, customers, and owners. This position will be subject to Startec’s rotation program. Each year, the chosen T.T. will transition between Startec Service and Compression & Process (C&P) divisions, affording them time to immerse themselves in diverse roles and projects, providing comprehensive learning opportunities and professional growth. This program spans a duration of two years, during which the Project T.T. will cycle through four key departments: Applications & Product Development (C&P), Package Engineering (C&P), Integrated Projects (C&P), and Projects Group (Service). KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI): ENGINEERING SUPPORT (Weighting 85%) Design & Documentation Carry out inspections of existing refrigeration systems to develop as-built drawings. Work with senior engineers to: Complete refrigeration heat load calculations, cooling load calculations, and heat loss calculations. Size and select compressors, condensers, evaporators, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, pumps, and control valves. Complete pipe sizing calculations. Complete refrigerant quantity/inventory calculations. Size and select pressure relief valves and design pressure relief systems. Develop control narratives and control philosophies. Size and select heat recovery systems. Optimize the efficiency of refrigeration systems and minimize their environmental impact. Design HVAC systems, including sizing and selecting fans, dampers, louvres, heaters, air handlers, ductwork, etc. Draft technical reports and memos. Develop Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Layout drawings, equipment drawings, etc. in AutoCAD. Coordinate with designers to develop 3D models for refrigeration systems, skids, and buildings. PROJECT COORDINATION (Weighting 5%) Customer Interaction Project and Design Collaboration Review project requirements, plans, and specifications to identify required engineering deliverables and technical requirements. Participate in project and design coordination meetings. Assist with the procurement of equipment, piping, fittings, valves, and other materials. Assist with the preparation of submittal packages and shop drawings for internal and external (client or owner) review and approval. Coordinate design information with other engineering disciplines and contractors. Assist with the generation of Project Operating and Maintenance Manuals. Provide engineering support for commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting activities. Participate in project "Closeout" and startup "Lessons Learned" meetings, contributing feedback to Project Managers. CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT (Weighting 5%) Improvement and Innovation Stay updated with industry advancements and trends in refrigeration and HVAC design and technology. Seek opportunities for training and growing technical abilities. Meet or exceed annual continuous professional development targets as required by APEGA. QUALIFICATIONS: Engineering Technology Diploma, Building Environmental Systems diploma or equivalent. Enrollment as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or ability to obtain EIT status with APEGA, and other engineering bodies as required (for EIT). Strong academic record and a genuine interest in engineering technology. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Effective communication and teamwork abilities. Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges. Proficiency in computer applications relevant to engineering (AutoCAD, Excel, etc.) Previous internship or project experience related to engineering is a bonus. Driver’s license. Proficiency in English, both written and oral.
