Having a presence in Canada for over 100 yrs, they are a leading producer of iron-ore, copper, cobalt and precious metals and the world’s 2nd largest nickel mining company.
With on going commitment and to development to the Canadian Mining industry they are meeting their targets and due to structured growth in their Sudbury office they are currently looking to recruit an experienced Project Geophysicist to work in their Base Metals Brownfield Exploration Group.
Reporting to the Manager of Geophysics, the Project Geophysicist will be responsible for varied exploration assignments requiring thorough knowledge of Geophysical techniques for sulphide exploration and reasonable knowledge of the interaction with the other Geoscience disciplines. You will adhere to restrictions of budget and project plans and may participate in project planning, budget preparation and propose new projects to Management.
You will also ensure effective exploration by applying technically and financially suitable Geophysical methods in office and field studies which may represent a range of standard procedures. You will show natural management ability and directs Technical staff and junior professionals and oversee the co-ordination of logistics of field projects (standard exploration procedures are fully known and followed).
Technically you will be strong in achieving a competent Geophysical interpretation by integrating the available data into a model using sound Geophysical principles and concepts where you will report all results to management. You will actively participate in Safety Health and Environmental (SHE) programs and accountable to company SHE policies, procedures and protocols. It is important that you advise on the suitability of further studies by reviewing existing Geophysical data within a specific area of ability.
To be successful in this role you will utilise your BSc Geophysics or BSc in Earth Sciences with three - 4yrs of related Geophysics background within the Mining industry. Ideally the successful applicant will have Professional Accreditation or Eligibility with APGO for Ontario
You must have an understanding in Geophysics applications and techniques for magmatic sulphide exploration (EM, gravimetric, magnetic, induced polarization, seismic, physical properties, etc.) and be familiar with standard Geophysical software (EM modeling, Geosoft, GIS, etc.). Having strong people skills, leadership and computer software skills are crucial to be successful.
